Polish travel agency offers trips to Afghanistan
Warsaw - It's billed as a vacation only for those looking for adventure, and a rough ride.
Logos Travel, a Polish agency in the western city of Poznan, is offering the country's first trips to Afghanistan. The 15-day excursions cost some 4,300 dollars, including plane tickets from Warsaw to Kabul.
While Afghanistan is widely known as war-torn after years of conflicts, the organizers insist it's slowly becoming the destination point for "the most ambitious globetrotters."
Stops along the route include Bamyan, site of the giant Buddha figures destroyed by the Taliban, Tora Bora, where it was thought Osama bin Laden hid after the 9/11 attacks on the US, and the Hindu Kush mountains, scene of battles between the Soviets and mujahideen.
"We have already finalized a 16-person group," agency owner Marek Sliwka told the daily Wyborcza - although one person backed out after carefully thinking it over.
"Our offer is aimed only at those who really want this. That's why in the beginning we try to discourage clients," Sliwka said.
After news of the offer appeared in Wyborcza, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a travel advisory Wednesday, strongly advising tourists against Kabul and warning of terrorist attacks.
