Polestar 2 EV gets increased range along with new colors & wheels
Swedish automotive manufacturer Polestar’s widely-popular Polestar 2 EV has received a series of updates, including increased range, to remain fresh and competitive with newer models, such as the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4.
The updates, which currently have been confirmed for the European market, include a 70-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack from Chinese battery maker CATL for the standard range variant of the EV, which is not available in the American markets. With this new battery, which boasts net capacity of 68 kWh, the single e-motor standard-range model’s range (WLTP) increases from 339 miles (approx. 546 km) to 344 miles (approx. 554 km) on a single full charge.
Prior to the updates, the previous model would come equipped with a LG Chem-branded battery pack that had a total capacity of 69 kWh, of which 67 kWh was usable, which was good for the aforementioned range of 339 miles between two charges.
It is worth-mentioning here that the single-motor long-range version of the Polestar 2 EV comes equipped with the same 82-kWh battery, bit it offers a longer range of a few more miles. To be more specific, the EV’s range increased up from 407 miles (approx. 655 km) to 409.5 miles (approx. 659 km). For reference, the Polestar 2’s single-motor long-range variant with 19-inch wheels currently offers a range of 320 miles. The variant with 20-inch wheels promises a range of 307 miles.
The dual-motor long-range variants come equipped with a comparatively smaller 78-kWh battery pack (with 75 kWh usable capacity). Combining with the performance pack, the battery promises a range of 276 to 247 miles between two charges. Interestingly, the aforementioned changes have been announced only for the European markets.
The refreshed electric model’s 19-inch Aero wheels and 20-inch Pro Graphite wheels are also of the latest updates, which emerged as part of the new Pro Pack. This pack also adds special seat belts featuring a gold stripe and eye-catching gold valve covers for the tires. The company has also announced the availability of a new Climate Pack, which adds heat pump, heated windscreen, washer nozzles, a heated steering wheel, and heated seats.
The series of the updates enhanced the Polestar 2 EV’s appeal to consumers by combining practical enhancements in range with sophisticated new design elements. The updates ensure that the all-electric model remains a competitive as well as attractive option in the EV market.
