Pinterest celebrates its fifth birthday
Pinterest allows people share ideas and creativity and also get inspired with them. The website has grown tremendously over the past few years and has raised funds from investors to grow in new markets. Pinterest is a web and mobile application that operates an eponymous photo sharing platform. The company recently celebrated its fifth birthday.
Pinterest was recently valued at $11 billion. Mainly, its audience has always been female, and the company said that it's becoming popular in men also during the past two quarters.
The company is doing well in the increasingly popular social-mobile space and is experiencing a healthy expansion overseas. The majority of 'pinners' connect from mobile devices in social-mobile space.
According to Internet research firm comScore, in February, the company had 79.3 million unique visitors, which rose 47% from a year earlier. The majority were women, however male visitors also increased at a faster rate. The growth among male members has been recorded at 62 percent compared to 42% for women.
The company's community manager and the fourth employee hired at Pinterest is Enid Hwang. She didn't reveal the percentage of male users, however said that Pinterest's male user base in the US has increased by twice in the past year. She said that she doesn't believe that Pinterest is only for women.
According to her, they think that Pinterest could help unlock people's creativity.
Pinterest frequently grows with popular social networks like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. According to Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp, "Whether you're shopping or cooking (with a Pinterest app on a smartwatch), our challenge is how do we make (content from our partners) simpler and more effective? How do we make that plumbing easier to use?".
