PGTI to start second-division golf tour

PGTI to start second-division golf tour New Delhi, Dec 15 : To ease the burden from the elite Tour, the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) is going to start a second-division Tour from the next season.

At present PGTI has only one Tour and it sees participation of nearly 320 golfers. From the next season, PGTI will have Two tours -- A, the elite, and the second division B.

PGTI Director Padamjit Sandhu said Tuesday that top-100 golfers will participate in the A Tour while the remaining will be in the B.

"The B Tour will have 8-12 events from next season and the top-10 or 15 players will qualify for the A tour. Similarly the last 10 or 15 golfers in the A Tour will be relegated to B," Sandhu said at a sports summit Turf 2009 organised by FICCI.

Sandhu said that the divisions would be on the lines of the USPGA Tour, which also has a second division called as the Nationwide Tour.

Sandhu also said that the B Tour will help the PGTI to take golf to smaller cities and make the game popular.(IANS)
