Petrol pump owners call off strike Petrol pump owners in Delhi called off their scheduled strike after Sheila Dikshit-led Delhi government promised to look into the matter and resolve the issues. The strike was called demanding to rollback the increase that the government has recently announced in VAT for Diesel.

President of the Delhi Petrol Dealers' Association Atul Peshawaria was quoted telling PTI that they have the CM's assurance that their demands would be looked into by the government in 15 to 20 days. However, he also warned that if nothing happens, then the association might go for an agitation.

Peshawaria further added that the association has received similar assurance from Union Petroleum Minister Mr. Murli Deora as well.

Earlier, the Delhi government had increased VAT on Diesel from 12.5 per cent to 20 per cent in the state budget for the financial year 2010-11. Now petrol pump owners demand an immediate rollback of the additional VAT.

Pump owners claim that there has been a tremendous fall in diesel sales in Delhi as post price hike diesel price in the state capital is notably higher than adjacent places including Noida and Gurgaon.
