Pervez Musharraf won’t extend tenure of National Assembly

Pervez MusharrafIslamabad, Nov 11 : President Pervez Musharraf has decided not to extend the National Assembly’s tenure, Geo News reported.

Meanwhile, Musharraf reaffirmed his commitment to hold free and fair elections as soon as possible, abd said that all possible steps would be taken for the purpose.

"All necessary steps shall be taken to hold free and fair elections as early as possible," said Musharraf while chairing the 103rd Corps Commanders Conference at the General Headquarters.

He said the proclamation of emergency was taken in the best interest of the country to ensure effective governance, maintain impetus to root out terrorism and to ensure stable political transition.

Musharraf said that a stable security environment was essential for economic progress, adding that it would be ensured that no effort was spared to eradicate extremism and militancy from the country.

He said all necessary resources and assistance would be provided to the troops engaged in their mission, assigned to them by the government, and that has the full support of the nation, the Daily Times reported. (ANI)
