China to increase economic and security cooperation with Nepal

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang JiechiKathmandu  - Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Wednesday promised to increase aid and security cooperation with Nepal, but raised concerns over the activities of Tibetan exiles in the Himalayan nation.

The promise of increased assistance to Nepal came during bilateral talks between Nepalese Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav and the visiting Chinese minister in Kathmandu.

The Nepalese foreign minister told reporters that the two countries had signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation.

China welcomes nomination of Clinton as US secretary of state

Yang JiechiBeijing - Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi telephoned Hillary Clinton to offer his congratulations on her nomination as US secretary of state, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tuesday.

The spokesman said Yang expressed satisfaction at the state of relations between the two countries and looked forward to cooperation with Clinton so that ties could develop further.

The spokesman, Liu Jianchao, made no reference to differences between Clinton and outgoing President George W Bush over the US position on human rights in China.

China expresses surprise over India’s disappointment with its NSG stand

New Delhi, Sept 9 : Chinese Foreign Minister Yang JiechiChinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who is on a three-day visit to India, has said that he is surprised by reports that India is disappointed by China’s stand at the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) meeting in Vienna. 

Jiechi, who met External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the second day of his state visit on Monday, told this to a private television news channel.

Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister meets Manmohan Singh

Manmohan Singh, Yang JeichiNew Delhi, Sept 8 : Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jeichi, who is on a three-day visit to India, met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh soon after his arrival in New Delhi on Monday.

Jeichi who began his India visit with an overnight stay in Kolkata met West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and expressed Beijing''s keen interest in making investments in various fields in India including infrastructure building.

The Chinese Foreign Minister is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart later in the day.

Chinese Foreign Minister expects more investments in India

Jeichi, who arrived here on Sunday on an official two-day visit to India, met West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee this morning and held discussions on various issues.

Addressing the media after his interaction with Bhattacharjee, Jeichi said his country would be interested in making investments in various fields including infrastructure building and other areas.

Chinese Foreign Minister to meet Manmohan, Pranab today

New Delhi, Sept 8 : Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who arrived in Kolkata on a three-day visit to India on Sunday, will reach here this afternoon to meet Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and to hold delegation level talks with the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee. 

The Indian leadership is expected to convey its disappointment about Beijing''''s stand at NSG meet at Vienna for granting waiver to New Delhi''''s nuclear trade.

Reports from Vienna suggested that China, which initially refrained from saying much on the India-specific waiver from the (NSG), started playing an "active role" to try to block a consensus before the nuclear cartel decided to give India the waiver on Saturday.
