Deshmukh offers to quit, Deputy R.R. Patil resigns

Vilasrao DeshmukhMumbai, Dec. 1 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Monday offered to quit from his post in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks last week.

"I offered to resign at the Congress Working Committee CWC meeting (on Saturday) if any responsibility lies on the Chief Minister. Whatever decisions the high command and my leader takes, I will abide by it," Deshmukh told reporters in Mumbai.

However, sources said that he will continue in his post till a successor is decided by the Congress party leadership.

Deshmukh visits Mumbai’s Taj hotel

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao DeshmukhMumbai, Dec. 1: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Sunday visited the Taj Mahal hotel, one of places attacked by the terrorists last week.

Talking to the media after reviewing the ongoing mopping up operations inside the hotel, Deshmukh said: "All the rescue work was finished yesterday (Saturday) and now the officials are busy in the investigations. From today (Sunday) onwards the investigation will be carried on speedily and then only all the details will come out."

UK police arriving in India to establish whether terrorists had British link

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao DeshmukhLondon, Nov. 29 : British police have flown to India to establish whether any of the terrorists who killed 150 people in the Bombay massacre had links to the UK.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said two "British-born Pakistanis" were among the eight gunmen captured alive during bloody shoot-outs with soldiers.

The Daily Telegraph has also learnt that the terrorists monitored international reaction to the attacks on British newspaper websites and on Arabic websites popular in the north of England.

Adequate measures taken to ensure law and order in Maharashtra claims Deshmukh

DeshmukhNanded (Maharashtra), Oct 30 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said that adequate measures have been taken to ensure law and order in Maharashtra which has witnessed attacks against North Indians.

Talking to reporters here Deshmukh said, "The situation in the state is under total control and adequate measures have been taken to ensure law and order."

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil had on Tuesday spoken to Deshmukh and expressed hope that the State Government would act to check the violence.

Deshmukh invites Tata to start Nano plant in MaharashtraMumbai, Oct 4 : As Ratan Tata made Nano''s exit from West Bengal became official on Saturday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh renewed his invitation to Tatas to set up the ''Nano'' car plant in the State.

Talking to media persons here, Deshmukh said, "Ratan Tata had approached me when I was on a tour to Europe. Now I will meet him to discuss the proposal."

Deshmukh reiterated that his government will give all necessary facilities to start Nano plant in the State.
