Mumbai, Dec. 1: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Sunday visited the Taj Mahal hotel, one of places attacked by the terrorists last week.

Talking to the media after reviewing the ongoing mopping up operations inside the hotel, Deshmukh said: "All the rescue work was finished yesterday (Saturday) and now the officials are busy in the investigations. From today (Sunday) onwards the investigation will be carried on speedily and then only all the details will come out."

The Maharashtra Government has announced a compensation amount of Rs. 25 lakh (2.5 million rupees) to the families of the victims killed in the terror attack.

India has blamed the strikes on militant ''elements'' having sanctuary in Pakistan.

Public anger is high in the wake of the attacks launched by at least ten terrorists on Mumbai''s top two luxury hotels (the Taj and the Trident-Oberoi), its biggest railway station (CST or Victoria Terminus Railway Station) and several other landmarks with the help of grenades and AK-47 assault rifles.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Hassan Gafoor said, the information that the militants had gathered of the sites of the attack, was all from photographs and maps that they had sourced from the Internet.

Authorities in Mumbai are placing the death toll at 195 and 295 wounded. (ANI)
