Russian Foreign Minister to arrive in India today

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei LavrovNew Delhi, Oct 19 : Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will arrive here today.

During his visit, Lavrov will meet External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee. Both are expected to review bilateral relations in diverse spheres and discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.

A protocol on holding regular consultations between the Ministry of External Affairs of India and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation during 2009-2010 is expected to be signed during the visit.

Russian Foreign Minister to visit India

New Delhi, Oct.17: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will be visiting India on October 20.

During the visit, he will meet the External Affairs Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee.

Both are expected to review bilateral relations in diverse spheres and discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.

A protocol on holding regular consultations between the Ministry of External Affairs of India and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation during 2009-2010 is expected to be signed during the visit.

Mukherjee and Lavrov last met each other in New York on September 28 on the sidelines of the 63rd UNGA meeting.

Sergei Lavrov: Georgia arms embargo tops Russian agenda for talks

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei LavrovMoscow - Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday said an arms embargo against Georgia would top Russia's agenda for peace talks set for Geneva on October 15.

"It is our conviction that an international embargo on sales of offensive weapons to Georgia is an urgent step," Lavrov was quoted by news agency Interfax as saying on Wednesday.

The Geneva peace conference was agreed under an EU-brokered ceasefire negotiated by French President Nicolas Sarkozy with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev that ended Russia's five-day war with Georgia.

Lavrov wants new European security treaty after Georgia conflict

Lavrov said that in the conflict in the Caucasus, the "existing architecture of security in Europe did not pass the strength test in recent events."

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei LavrovLondon, Sept. 13: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov subjected his British counterpart David Miliband to a four-letter abuse tirade when the latter lectured the former about Moscow’s decision to invade Georgia.

Lavrov reportedly reacted with fury and repeatedly used the "F-word" when Miliband criticized him about last month’s aggression in South and North Ossetia and Abkhazia.

The Telegraph quoted an insider as saying that it was difficult to draft a readable note of the conversation.

Russia ready to discuss US anti-missile shield, Lavrov tells Poles

Warsaw - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov - visiting Warsaw Thursday - was quoted by a Polish newspaper as saying Russia is ready to improve relations and to discuss the US anti-missile shield to be placed in Poland.

The daily Wyborcza quoted him further as saying the European Union and Russia's security were interconnected, and Russia was ready to talk about the missile shield as long as the guarantees were not "empty political gestures."

"If the US and Poland are really interested in guaranteeing that the European anti-missile base won't be aimed against Russia then we, like up until now, are ready to consider their concrete proposals," he was quoted as saying.
