Filmmaker Prakash Jha is contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections from the Bettiah constituency in Bihar. The acclaimed filmmaker has already begun campaigning after he got the ticket from the Lok Jansakti Party. Speaking to us about his real life political jump from reel life movies that circle mostly around Bihar politics, Jha said, "It is nothing new that I am doing. I have been doing this for years. I have tried to change a lot of things in the state while making my films. It won't be difficult for me to balance both the fields as my filmmaking is an extension of my politics."
All of Bihar is abuzz with the rumour that Prakash Jha has been given an election ticket by Ram Vilas Paswan's LJP party in Bihar on promise that Prakash will launch Paswan's son Chriag as a leading man.
Though Prakash outright denies such a deal he doesn't rule out the possibility of working with Ram Vilas Paswan's son Chirag who's now based in Mumbai and preparing for a career in films.
Bollywood producer Prakash Jha has joined hands with UTV Motion Pictures to co-produce his upcoming directorial venture ‘Rajneeti’.
The producer has also signed up a distribution deal with UTV for 'Rajneeti', which is scheduled to hit theatres during the first half of the coming year (2010).
UTV will distribute the movie all through the world.
Jha said, “With Bhopal as its backdrop and 5,000 trained actors from all over Madhya Pradesh working on the films landscape, Rajneeti is truly my most exciting and ambitious venture.”
It's an unheard -of screen phenomenon. For his intense political drama Rajniti w in Bhopal Prakash Jha hired and trained 5000 theatre actors to play the participants in various political rallies.
Grins the gritty political filmmaker, "Bhopal has turned into a city of rallies. We'll be shooting rallys with Nana Patekar, Manoj Bajpai , Arjun Rampal, Naseer..all the actors who play politicians. The rally spectators, all 5000 of them were raised, selected and trained by us in a workshop over a gruelling period seven years."
