Washington, Aug 19: A former US government official at the White House has said that former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf had indulged into “selective counter-terrorism” by pursuing only a few terrorists.
Lahore, Aug 19 : Sources close to PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari have said that he has decided not to bay for former President Pervez Musharraf’s blood and close the Musharraf chapter.
They said that Zardari was keen on letting “bygones be bygones” and “getting on” with grappling with the real issues facing the nation and people of Pakistan instead of harping about the fate of the former president.
Auckland, Aug. 19 (ANI): Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd believes that the exit of Pervez Musharraf from the Pakistan presidency could pose problems for NATO operations in neighbouring Afghanistan.
Speaking in Auckland today ahead of the Pacific Island Forum in Nuie, Rudd said the key consideration for Australia was the affect of the decision would have on the continuing military campaign in Afghanistan.
There are problems in terms of al-Qaida, we have problems in terms of the Taliban, we have problems in terms of the porous nature of the border, news. com. au quoted Rudd, as saying.
Islamabad, Aug 19 : A human rights body in Pakistan has reportedly filed a petition before the Islamabad High Court demanding that the name of former President Pervez Musharraf must be put on the exit control list (ECL) to prevent him from flying abroad to lead an exiled life and avoid being prosecuted.
Defence of Human Rights organization Chairman Khalid Khawja filed the petition for inclusion of Musharraf’s name on ECL today, reported The News.
Washington, Aug 19 : US officials and experts on South Asia have said that the coalition government in Islamabad must now resolve to bring about stability in the country, and that it could be done only if assumed the full burden of fixing the economy and waged a more effective counterterrorism campaign.
They are of the opinion that it was a testing time for the present day government in Islamabad, since their main “obstacle” Pervez Musharraf had eased himself out of the administration, reported the Washington Post.
