Washington, Feb 23 : While winning the best actress Oscar was the realisation of a childhood dream for Kate Winslet, best supporting actress award winner Penelope Cruz was so excited that she felt she would faint.

Winslet, 33, who won the award for her role as Hanna Schmitz in `The Reader', said she had first practised her speech in the mirror aged eight.

"I think I was probably eight years old and staring into the bathroom mirror, and this would have been a shampoo bottle," the British star said gesturing to her golden statuette during her acceptance speech.

Film mogul Harvey Weinstein, whose company was behind the flick, and director Stephen Daldry approached many other actresses like Nicole Kidman, who fell pregnant during that time, Naomi Watts and Marion Cotillard, as they thought Kate was busy with `The Revolutionary Road'.

London, February 18 : In the run-up to the Oscar Awards, British actress Kate Winslet is reported to be facing renewed criticism from the Jewish community over her controversial role as a Nazi in the Holocaust film The Reader.

The film, based on Bernhard Schlink''s best-selling novel of the same name, has been hit by accusations of "Holocaust revisionism".

It features Winslet as Hanna Schmitz, a former concentration camp guard who stood by as 300 prisoners met their death in a burning church.
