Arab League chief in Baghdad seeking closer Iraqi-Arab ties Bagdhad - Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa was in Baghdad Tuesday for talks with Iraq's president and prime minister on greater cooperation in the troubled country's "national reconciliaton" process.

The visit comes a day after the US claimed it had shot down an Iranian drone over Iraqi airspace last month, and other strains within the Arab world over Iran's influence.

Mussa, however, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa, he held little hope that either Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni or opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu would change Israel's policy toward the rest of the region.

"Regarding Kadima's victory, if Israel's new government proceeds in its current ways, we won't find any progress in Israel's policies," Mussa said.

New Delhi, Dec 2 : Arab League General Secretary General Amre Moussa met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here today.

Moussa''s three-day visit to India is aimed at for pushing bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Moussa, who is the Secretary General of a 22-nation body, is also expected to meet External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee later in the day where both sides are expected to explore ways to enhance cooperation in energy, trade and investment sectors.

He is also expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at setting up an Arab-India Relations Forum, which would act as joint mechanism boosting cooperation on both sides.

Arab League chief arrives in Damascus

Arab League Secretary-General Amr Mussa Damascus - Arab League chief Amr Mussa arrived in Damascus Saturday, where he is expected to discuss with Syrian officials a recent broadcast on Syrian TV where prisoners alleged terrorist ties to Lebanon, Lebanese media reported.

The November 6 broadcast showed prisoners confessing to a September bomb blast in Damascus and claiming links exist between the Lebanese parliamentary majority leader and Fatah al-Islam, a militant, Lebanon-based group with ties to al-Qaeda.

The Arab League agreed Thursday to review the circumstances surrounding those confessions.
