PC sales declined 19% in third quarter
Low demand from corporate and household sector led to decline in PC sales in the third quarter of current financial year.
The Manufacturers' Association of Information Technology (MAIT), in its quarterly industrial performance review, shows 19 per cent decline in computers and notebooks sales under the impact of global slowdown and appreciation of dollar as compared to other currencies.
Total of 1.4 million units of PCs were sold between October and December 2008. Sales of desktops declined 15 per while sales of notebooks stood at 350,000 units, reporting 30 per cent year-on-year decline in the reporting period.
MAIT Executive Director, Vinnie Mehta, said, "With less than expected sales in the households and the enterprises, the desktops recorded a decline in consumption by 15 per cent, while sales of notebooks fell by 30 per cent over the same period last year."
MAIT forecasts almost same sales figures for the current financial year as in the last financial year under tight liquidity conditions prevailing across the world.
