Panel Will Be Formed To Probe Admission Scam
An admission scam in the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) came into light last week. It was found that many candidates, who have left their Optical Mark Recognition sheets blank in the examination, had names in the merit list for two courses, dental hygiene and dental mechanics.
Hand of an insider is suspected in the scam. Reexamination will be conducted as the initial enquiry had noted anomalies in the admission procedure. The emergency meeting of the executive council was called on Wednesday to decide the course of action in the present situation.
During the meeting, it was decided that a disciplinary committee headed by the Vice-Chancellor will be formed to probe the entrance examination scam. The council suggested that to ensure that the inquiry is unbiased and proper, the committee should also comprise a retired bureaucrat, a judge and a former vice-chancellor.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Saroj Chooramani Gopal said that a few names for the members of the committee have been suggested. They will be approached for approval. After the formation, the committee will submit a report in two weeks. Subsequently, the council will meet to discuss the report.
He said, "Irregularities in the examination have serious implications and we cannot let it go like that."
