Palm oil 'might be phased out'

palm-oilMerely a year earlier food firms didn’t seemingly want to hear about the injury palm oil ingredients do to the rainforest-dwelling animals, a prominent zoo group claimed.

The development seems to have raised eyes as the number of food consumers and animal lovers concerned that palm oil plantations are eroding rainforests in South East Asia and at the same time the natural habitat of orangutans, who are dying at the rate of 50 per week, Zoos Victoria general manager Rachel Lowry claimed.

Ms Lowry seemingly has witnessed the change in attitude among food firms which are being released the 'don't palm us off' campaign in August last year.

Ms Lowry stated:"Five out of six of Australia's major palm oil manufacturers are switching to certified oil. When I started the campaign, I found it very hard to get any food manufacturers to speak to me."

Other firms who have released similar campaigns in the previous year, comprising of Auckland Zoo, asked Cadbury's employed usage of palm oil and Green Peace International which aimed the corporation Nestle.

Ms Lowry further stated that the regulatory and consumer pressure profits momentum, food companies will get creative and showed products are "orangutan friendly".

She added:"I have a feeling it will be a bit like the dolphin-friendly labels. If they [food companies] are buying the premium oil, they will put some money into letting you know about it."
