Pak Hindu community celebrates Holi in Karachi
Karachi, Mar. 23: The Hindu community in Karachi celebrated Holi at the Swami Narayan Temple here.
Holi is a popular spring festival of colours that marks the burning of the demoness Holika, who paid the price for her sinister desires when she entered a blazing fire with her nephew Prahlad in her lap.
According to a famous legend, Prahlad was saved from the fire by the grace of God for his extreme devotion, while Holika burnt despite the presence of her boon (that was known to protect her). Therefore, the Hindus celebrate the victory of good over evil and also the triumph of devotion.
Married women also performed a special rite by gathering around a bonfire (lit at the centre of the empty ground at the temple) and prayed for the happiness and well-being of their families at the sight of the full moon, which was followed by the actual play of colours through the night. (ANI)
