Our application for the licence stands: Videocon

Our application for the licence stands: VideoconVideocon Industries on Friday claimed that it had not withdrawn its application for a new bank licence, adding that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) might have committed a mistake in reporting any such move by the company.

The application for a new banking licence was filed by Videocon's Aurangabad-based subsidiary Value Industries Limited.

But, the central bank yesterday posted a release on its website, stating that one applicant, viz. Value Industries, Aurangabad, had rolled back its application.

But, the company denied any such move. Responding to the RBI release, Videocon Industries chairman & MD Venugopal Dhoot said, "I am sure there is a mistake somewhere. Our application for the licence stands."

Mr. Dhoot added that the company officials would take up the matter with the central bank on Saturday, September 7. He also expressed hope that the "mistake" would be rectified soon.

The central bank release also showed that KC Land & Finance Ltd, Chandigarh, whose application was received at the RBI on 1st of July this year, but was unintentionally not included in the list of applicants for new bank licences, is now included in the list.
