Olli's hill record stops Schlierenzauer's run
Oberstdorf - Finland's Olli Harri on Saturday ended Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer's run of six World Cup wins in a row with a hill record jump of 225.5 metres.
The 24-year-old, who became the first non-Austrian to win a ski jump World Cup event this season, added a second jump of 216m on the large hill in Oberstdorf for a total of
435,8 points.
Second place went to Norway's Anders Jacobsen with 428,6 points from leaps of 218m and 212.5m, while his compatriot Johan Evensen took third place with jumps of
211.5m and 223.5m for a total of 426,5 points.
Schlierenzauer, who went into Saturday's competition looking for a seventh World Cup win in a row that would put him one better than the Finnish duo of Janne Ahonen and Matti Hautamaki (2004/2005) and Austrian Thomas Morgenstern (2007/2008), who also won six events in a row.
The Austrian, who finished eighth on the day, maintains his commanding lead in the World Cup standings with 1,652 points, from Simon Ammann, who has 1,418 points, while the Four Hills winner Wolfgang Loitzl from Austria is third on 1,252 points.
Ahead of Sunday's final event of the Team Tour at the same venue, Norway took over the lead from Austria. (dpa)
