Ofgem fines EDF £2m for poor service

Ofgem fines EDF £2m for poor serviceBritain's energy regulator, Ofgem has fined EDF 2 million pounds for failing to grant electricity connections to some customers within three months.

As per Ofgem's investigation EDF Energy failed to meet a 3-month deadline in connecting customers in as many as 100 cases since 2006.

Speaking on the topic, Ofgem's managing director for corporate affairs, Sarah Harrison said, "Customers should not have to accept poor service in any part of the energy market."

Earlier, National Grid was slapped with £30 million fine by Ofgem for obstructing the rollout of smart-meters.

It should be noted here that Alistair Buchanan, Ofgem's chief executive had recently warned electricity and gas suppliers to perk up their customer services.

The EDF Energy, which was also blamed of not registering the complaints correctly, said it was greatly regretted over the delays, adding that compensations worth A£450,000 had been made to the sufferers.

The French power company, EDF Energy is the world's biggest producer of nuclear power.
