Obamacare rollout delayed due to computer snag
According to officials, a computer snag is affecting the proposed roll out of Obama's health insurance exchange under the healthcare reform law on 1 October as some key functions might remain inaccessible at the time of its launch in some states.
The District of Columbia as well as Colorado and Oregon are facing problems with information technology (IT) indicating that the launch of the online health insurance exchange might face several snags across the country at the time of its launch. Under the new healthcare reform law, the government has set up 51 health insurance exchange in the country to allow people to purchase policies.
The IT issues might prevent people from calculating if they are eligible for Medicaid. It also restricts people from knowing if they are eligible for federal subsidies. Under the law, people whose income is less than four times the federal poverty level can receive federal subsidies in the form of tax credits.
The 2010 Affordable Care Act requires subsidies to help several uninsured Americans secure healthcare. The cost of healthcare could rise without the support of the subsidies.
