Nowitzki, Dallas too hot for Miami
Los Angeles - Dirk Nowitzki probably will never like visiting Miami. On Saturday, he was a very rude guest.
Nowitzki was unstoppable, making 12-of-14 shots en route to 30 points Saturday night as the Dallas Mavericks rolled to their ninth consecutive victory over the Miami Heat,
111-96.
Jason Terry added 20 points for Dallas, which has not lost to Miami in the regular season since March 26, 2004. However, the Mavericks dropped four straight games to the Heat in the 2006 NBA Finals, squandering a 2-0 series lead and a championship.
"At some point you have to get over it," said Nowitzki, who has not won a playoff series since. "I'll always think about that week we had here in the Finals. Sometimes I wish I could take that whole week back and try it again. But you can't, and we all have to move forward."
"As long as that banner is hanging up there, you're always going to think about that," Terry said.
Dallas shot a season-high 60.3 percent (47-of-78) from the field as it manhandled Miami.
"They wouldn't miss," said Heat All-Star guard Dwyane Wade, who scored 30 points. "Our best game would have had trouble winning tonight."
Also an All-Star, Nowitzki made 7-of-8 shots and scored 17 points in the first half as Dallas opened a 57-49 lead. The Mavericks shot a blistering 13-of-17 in the second period.
"I was right there with him on every shot," Heat forward Udonis Haslem said.
"I think we take (Nowitzki) for granted sometimes," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "He made 12-of-14 against a top defensive team look pretty easy."
The Heat were still within 10 points when the Mavericks put together a 16-5 surge in which they missed just one of seven shots. Terry scored six points and Nowitzki four as Dallas widened the lead to 91-70.
"When they start making shots, you can tell it starts to build their confidence and then they feel like they can make anything," Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said.
Josh Howard scored 15 points and Jose Barea and Brandon Bass added 11 apiece for the Mavericks, who have won two in a row and five of seven.
Michael Beasley had 18 points and 10 rebounds and fellow rookie Mario Chalmers scored 17 points for the Heat, who shot 45.5 percent (35-of-77) and have dropped two in a row.
