Northern grid might collapse yet again, officialsGovernment officials have said that the Northern Grid was close to collapsing once again following two major blackouts that affected millions of people in the northern and eastern parts of the country.

Officials in the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) indicated that the double circuit line between Gwalior and Agra faced “dangerous overloading” on Wednesday evening and might have led to another collapse on the day. However, another crisis was averted due to the timely action of some power officials.

Officials said that power supply to industries has resumed but the power situation remains in despair and more steps should be taken to avoid a repeat of the two major blackouts this week. Officials are asking for adhering to the grid discipline at all costs in order to avoid more grip collapses.

The second major power grid failure affected the northern Indian region on Tuesday afternoon after a similar failure troubled residents on the early hours of Monday untill Tuesday morning. Power Ministry officials had said that the Eastern Grid had also failed adding to the problems faced by the people in the northern part of the country. Reports suggested said that ten states have been affected by the power outage.

Power minister Sushilkumar Shinde confirmed reports that northern and eastern grids have failed. He also said that grid management authorities are working to address the problem and electricity supply will be restored soon.
