Lahore, September 1 : Pakistan’s Presidential elections has given an opportunity to many non-serious candidates to get coverage in the media.

According to constitutional experts, a large number of people have filed their nomination papers for the presidential elections without fulfilling the required criteria. Subsequently, their papers have been rejected after scrutiny.

Only five nomination papers have been cleared by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Qazi Muhammad Farooq out of 33 nominations filed for the September 6 presidential polls, the Daily Times reports.

Rabbiya Bajwa, former Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) finance secretary said that many presidential candidates had filed their nomination papers only to get projection in the media.

According to Article 41 of Pakistan’s Constitution a person shall not qualify for the presidential elections unless he or she is a Muslim, at least 45-years old and is qualified to be elected as a member of the National Assembly. (ANI)
