Nokia sells 2 million N97 smartphones in 3 months

Nokia N97Leading mobile handset manufacturer, Nokia sold two million sets of its flagship N97 smartphone since its launch in June, scaling new heights of sales that even surpassed record set by its previous best-selling smartphone, N95.

The company has sold 10 million smartphones in last 10 months including eight million models of expensive 5800 XpressMusic. Company CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo informed that Nokia holds 45 per cent market share selling 18.4 million smartphones in the past quarter alone.

However, the company has been facing stiff completion from Apple, which sold 5.2 million iPhones in the same quarter.

The growth story may not continue in the near future as the iPhone 3GS' has been scaling new heights of popularity despite Nokia's products N900, less expensive N97 mini and its new touchphone the X6.

The Nokia N97 mini with 3.2-inch touch display, QWERTY keyboard and customizable home screen may hit the market in October 2009 bearing price tag of US$641.43 before taxes and subsidies. Similarly, the new smart phone N900 with 3.5-inch, 800x480 touch screen, is a latest effort by the company to maintain its past glory in terms of huge sales.
