London [UK], Nov. 14 : England captain Alastair Cook has insisted that his team's performance in the drawn first Test of the five-match series against India was a "proof" that they can compete against the No. 1 ranked team this season.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on a defiant 49 in a tense final session to deny England victory in the opening Test played at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot on Sunday.

"We got ourselves in a position to force a win and did not quite get over the line but it was a good Test match and everyone can be proud of how they played.We proved to everyone else we can play," Cook was quoted as saying by the Guardian.

Puri (Odisha) [India], Nov. 14 : India's renowned sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik has created a sculpture on the beach to extend his support to the government's move to scrap Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes.

Dedicated to the demonetisation of banknotes from the financial system, the sculpture bears the message, "RIP black money" and "Beginning of a Clean India".

"We have marked black money with RIP, and welcomed the new money to make a strong and clean India. Around five tons of sand is used to build this sand sculpture," said Pattnaik.

Pattnaik has won many awards for his sand art, and is known for his creativity of combining art and activism.

London [UK], Nov. 14 : Three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has taken the championship battle with Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg to the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi by winning the 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix in Sau Paulo, thereby cutting down the latter's lead to 12 points.

Reigning champion Hamilton survived a race that was repeatedly disrupted by heavy rain and crashes. Rosberg now needs a podium finish in the final event on November 27 to seal his first Formula One title win.

The Briton, who moved to second in the list of grand prix winners behind Michael Schumacher, said, "I'm still hunting, hunting. I will give it everything I've got in Abu Dhabi, which has generally been a good track for me."

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Nov. 14 : Acknowledging the temporary inconvenience being caused to the general public by the government's demonetisation announcement, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, said national interest is more important at the present time, and by and large, the people were in support of this initiative to end black money transactions.

"I believe today that people of India stand united in solidarity to fight against black money, to fight all the corrupt and to be in solidarity with the honest of this nation," BJP leader Shaina NC told ANI.

"Our Prime Minister needs to be applauded by us for the kind of emotion and commitment he has to this nation," she added.

Espoo [Finland], Nov.14 : Nokia has been selected by the Korea Rail Network Authority (KRNA) as a supplier for the world's first LTE-R mobile broadband network to support railway operations and employee services.

The network will be deployed on a railway line between Wonju and Gangneung as part of preparations for the major international sporting event being hosted by the country in 2018.

KRNA is responsible for the development and maintenance of railway infrastructure in South Korea as well as a number of other countries.

The communications network for KRNA will be based on LTE-R technology, a version of 4G LTE technology that is being developed to meet the mission-critical service requirements of railway operators.
