Study: Men and women need different levels of Truvada to effectively prevent HIV infection

In a recent study, researchers have discovered that the drug Truvada, the sole drug approved for prevention of HIV infection, is needed in different levels in men and women to prevent the infection effectively.

Published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases, the study researchers at North Carolina University have found that men could save themselves with just two doses a week, whereas women needs a dose everyday to stay protected.

The US Food and Drug Administration approved the drug in 2012 for regular use by people highly vulnerable to infection. The drug even notably decreased the number of fresh infections in areas it was made readily available.

Allergy-Causing Foods Should be slowly introduced in diet of kids: Study

Two new researches were undertaken to gain better insight into how kids can deal with foods that are typically responsible for causing allergies. Both the studies have suggested that giving peanuts and other foods responsible for allergies are helpful in protecting them against allergies rather than causing problems. Offering small portion develops resistance against allergic reactions. One of the studies was a follow-up to a milestone research that was published last year.

New Studies strengthen link between Zika and microcephaly

Brazilian health authority was confident that mosquito-borne Zika virus is causing microcephaly, but many International health experts said there could be other reasons for the condition in which a baby takes birth with a small head and an underdeveloped brain.

Now, new studies from two continents have suggested a link between microcephaly and Zika. They have revealed how the pathogen affects brain development of a baby and triggers complications during pregnancy.

The first study was conducted by researchers from the United States who claimed to identify how the virus leads to microcephaly, which has affected hundreds of babies in Brazil during the last few months.

Study finds why young California sea lions are Starving

Increasing global warming and food limitation have thrown sea lions of California into chaos. During the last more than four decades, the animal’s population has dropped dramatically. Last year, thousands of sea lion pups stranded along Southern California's coast, flooding rescue centers in the state.

A new study published in the journal Royal Society Open Science has linked young pups’ chaotic conditions to mother sea lions not getting enough food. Lack of nutrition is behind pups washing ashore, as per the study published Wednesday.

The study also predicted that it is a serious situation for the animal, which is not going to reverse itself any time soon. California sea lions have been suffering from last few decades, but today, the situation has worsened for sea lions.

Pluto has Methane Ice on its Mountains

Pluto has snow-capped mountains in areas called Cthulhu range, which stretches halfway around the dwarf planet's equator at more than 1,800 miles. The dwarf planet has methane snow on its peaks, the same methane that composes natural gas on Earth.

The highest peaks in Cthulhu range are coated with bright color, which is referred mostly as methane ice. “That this material coats only the upper slopes of the peaks suggests methane ice may act like water in Earth's atmosphere, condensing as frost at high altitude”, said John Stansberry, a New Horizons science team member from Space Telescope Science Institute of Baltimore.

MIT Researchers Make New System for Encryption that is scalable

Encryption is the medium to keep secret information secure, which includes credit cards, state secrets and other confidential data. This practice exclusively relies on factorization of large number. The traditional encryption schemes could now become obsolete as some researchers from MIT and University of Innsbruck in Austria have led to an idea of quantum computing that uses atomic-scale units to encrypt more efficiently. The results of the new research were published on Friday in the journal Science.
