Mac antivirus suggestion deleted by Apple

Mac antivirus suggestion deleted by AppleLate on Tuesday, an old item from the support site of Apple, that suggested Mac users to use multiple antivirus utilities was removed by the company. Apple maintain that Mac is safe "out of the box."

It was reported by Apple spokesperson Bill Evans that they have removed the KnowledgeBase article because it was old and inaccurate.

He informed, "The Mac is designed with built-in technologies that provide protection against malicious software and security threats, right out of the box. However, since no system can be 100 percent immune from every threat, running antivirus software may offer additional protection."

For those who are not aware as to what did the Apple's previous security message in its KnowledgeBase convey to the Mac users, it said, "Apple encourages the widespread use of multiple antivirus utilities, so that virus programmers have more than one application to circumvent, thus making the whole virus writing process more difficult."

It has been learnt that Apple's antivirus support note was primarily published last year and updated last month.

So overall, the message that remains is that Mac users don't really require taking additional steps to protect against viruses and other malware.
