Iraqi authorities approve "Tehran" as street name

IraqBaghdad- A street in Iraq is to be named after the Iranian capital "Tehran" with the approval of authorities and on the suggestion of the Iranian consul in Iraq, media reports said Tuesday.

The 800-metre long street is located in Arbil, the capital of Iraq's Kurdish autonomous region, al-Takhi newspaper reported. Iran has an eight-kilometre street called "Kurdistan."

Iran and Iraq were at war from 1980 to 1988 after Iraq invaded neighbouring Iran. (dpa)
