MLB.com To Work With Adobe
In a significant development, Adobe and Major League Baseball announced that they have signed an agreement for Major League Baseball to power all their video content, including the live MLB TV content that is wildly popular.
As per the two year agreement reached between the two parties at the Adobe Max Conference in San Francisco on Monday, MLB.com, a major League Baseball's online unit and one of the Web's most successful subscription services, will provide a downloadable rich Internet application (RIA) built using Adobe AIR™. With this, the baseball fans will be able to access additional features outside the Web browser. Adobe will deliver all of its live and on-demand video offerings beginning in 2009.
Speaking on this, Scott Guthrie (Vice-President, Microsoft) said, “Microsoft has appreciated the partnership of MLB.com.”
"Microsoft continues to be very pleased with the success of Silverlight. We have a great ecosystem that includes more than 150 partners”, added Guthrie.
Since 2003, MLB.com has signed up more than 1.5 million subscribers and it also boasts for streaming more than 2,500 regular and postseason games annually. Moreover, MLBAM has been a technological leader and is influential among Web video services. Established in June 2000, MLB Advanced Media LP (MLBAM) is the interactive media and internet company of Major League Baseball. MLBAM manages each of the 30 individual Club sites to create the most comprehensive Major League Baseball resource on the Internet. MLB.com provides the most complete information of baseball to its fans. The website in-fact offers more live events on the Internet than any other website in the world.
Adobe is one of the largest and likely most profitable video services in the global market. Touted to be the largest video platform, Adobe's Flash Player is installed on more than 98 percent of Web-connected content.
