The First Couple Casts Early Vote for McCain
According to White House spokeswoman, Dana Perino, the reigning first couple of the country, President Bush and Mrs. Bush, cast their ballots Friday for the 2008 election, using Texas’ early voting process. In the three elections, Bush voted in Crawford, Texas, where he owns a 1,600 acre ranch.
Saying that the President and his wife, Laura, would be at the White House for election night, Perino said the ballots will be mailed back to Texas.
The reporters, of course, are leaving no stone unturned to know which of the two presidential candidates – Republican McCain and Democratic Obama – got the present President’s vote.
In an attempt to seek an answer to the big question, reporters pestered Perino, who replied: “I find this hard to believe but so many reporters have asked just who the President voted for, I guess I have to make it clear - for months the President has said he supports John McCain for President and of course he voted for him.”
In fact, the President officially endorsed Senator John McCain the day after the Arizona Senator secured the GOP nomination. Though Bush and McCain have a storied history - having run against one another in the 2000 presidential primaries - Bush invited McCain to the White House on March 5, 2008, to present a united party message.
McCain extended an invitation to Bush to join him on the campaign trail, but the President has not appeared at any rallies with the GOP nominee. Nevertheless, he has offered a lending hand with the fundraising. The President has said: “If my showing up and endorsing him helps him, or if I’m against him and it helps him - either way, I want him to win.”
