Agartala, Oct 4 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh on Saturday claimed that Bangladeshi Muslim fundamentalist (HuJI-B) supported by ISI are involved in recent serial blast in Agartala.

He was on a days’ visit to the State during which he visited the injured of the blasts at G. B. Panth hospital. He also went to some of the blast sites to take note from the eyewitnesses.

Singh accused the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of being soft on terror, and said it was unwilling to enact strict laws to curb the scourge and thus terrorism is getting encouragement.

He said like the US and Britain, India needs strong laws to tackle terrorism. He further added that the Northeast already had terrorism problem and with the serial blast it has been proven that now it has come under the map of Islamic terrorism.

During a press conference at the Agartala Circuit House, Singh declared a financial exgratia of Rs 50,000 for six critically injured blast victims.

The BJP president said on the Indo-US nuclear deal that India in signing the deal should not compromise with its nuclear sovereignty and if China and Pakistan has the right for nuclear test, India should also have it.

According to Singh, Mamata Banarjee’s agitation were for the cause of the poor farmer in the Singur issue. He however, made the Left Front government of West Bengal totally responsible for the TATA moving out of Singur.

Taking into account the three Bangladeshi nationals arrested on Thursday night in connection with Wednesday’s serial blasts here, the BJP president said surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides, Tripura is being used by militants as a to-and -fro corridor.

Police records reveal that six Bangladeshi nationals with ISI links have been arrested in the state since March this year. While one suspected HuJI cadre Mamun Mian was arrested from Ramnagar area in Agartala on March 27, it was later found that he was also wanted in a bomb blast case at Shibpur in Kolkata in January this year.

Mian was staying in a rented house here for quite some time and had obtained a ration card and other documents under an assumed name, Suman Mazumdar.

Significantly, Shahid Choudhury, a senior member in the Manik Sarkar Cabinet, had to resign on April 17 this year due to his alleged links with Mamun Mian.

The police had only last month submitted its charge sheet against Mian, who is currently lodged in a jail here.

In April, the police had arrested three more Bangladeshi nationals — Sirajul Islam, Sayed Hussain and Mohammed Kabir — from Pratapgarh area under West Agartala police station. Two of these Bangladeshis had infiltrated into Tripura and were staying illegally in the state, while one had entered India with a forged visa. (ANI)
