Rural E-Governance Project Completed By West Bengal
The rural e-governance program, undertaken by the West Bengal government, in association with microprocessor manufacturing major Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), was successfully completed in the state on Monday.
The program was undertaken with the aim to provide effective governance through computer penetration. This will take place within the Panchayati Raj institutions that covers 210 rural local bodies across 19 districts.
Ranjit Kumar Maity, West Bengal Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department joint secretary, informed, “The programme was initiated by the state Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department. The total project cost was Rs.38 million of which 40 percent was spent on capacity building activities in the gram panchayats.”
The Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department's permission had initiated the gram panchayat e-governance project, to increase the social and economic progress in rural areas with the help of the Information Communication Technology (ICT).
AMD corporate vice-president Asia Pacific Region Ian Williams reported, “Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department in West Bengal is one of the progressive departments in India which endeavors to effectively leverage the benefits of ICT.”
