NSG Approval Would End Nuclear Isolation

The special approval to the India specific safeguards by the Nuclear Supplier Group will end India’s nuclear isolation. India can now purchase modern nuclear equipment and technology from the open nuclear market. Many companies have started their initiatives to offer atomic fuel and technology sales to India. They are eying on the worth billion deals to be started by India after the approval from US congress.

The major companies in the race are Westinghouse Electric Co., General Electric Co. (GE), state-controlled Areva, Russia's atomic energy agency Rosatom and many others. The head of the consumer goods-to- energy firm Videocon Group, Venugopal Dhoot said that the booming nuclear sector requires huge investment. The company is also interested to negotiate nuclear power joint ventures with foreign firms.

It is recalled that the NSG controls the nuclear product and technology in the market. Its 45 members have cleared the civilian nuclear commerce with India on Saturday. India can now avail nuclear products and technology from the international market. India is intended to start new reactors after the completion of the pact. The country will increase nuclear power capacity to 30,000 to 60,000 megawatts over the next 20 years which would open a highly potential market for the companies for nuclear product sale and purchase.
