Poland supports Georgia over Russian recognition crisis

Poland supports Georgia over Russian recognition crisis Warsaw  - Poland on Tuesday called for respect for Georgia's territorial integrity after Russia recognized the former Soviet satellites two breakaway territories, fueling a recent conflict in the region.

Poland still awaits international dialog on the two regions and solutions that will guarantee "lasting security," said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Any steps taken outside that plan are met with "deep disapproval and concern" from the international community, the Ministry said.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev formally recognized on Tuesday the breakaway territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The United States slammed the resolution while the European Union reaffirmed support for Georgia's territorial integrity. (dpa)
