Hamas refuses independent investigation in the Fatah-blamed blasts

Hamas refuses independent investigation in the Fatah-blamed blastsCairo  - Mussa Abu Marzouq, deputy of the Damascus-based political wing of the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas, said Wednesday the movement refuses any kind of independent investigation on who is behind the bombings that have recently hit Gaza.

Abu Marzouq told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa, while in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials, that "it is a crime not a reconciliation case that may need an independent investigation."

Last Friday, bomb attacks took place in western Gaza City in which five Hamas members and a girl were killed and dozens more wounded, and for which the Islamist movement blames President Mahmoud Abbas' movement Fatah.

Fatah and Hamas have been rivals since Hamas took over the Gaza Strip last year.

Earlier on Wednesday, Saleh Zeidan, head of the delegation of Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) in Cairo asked for an independent investigation to be held on who was behind the blasts.

"There are around 100 suspects being held for the bombings case. Once investigations end, results will be announced," Abu Marzouq told dpa.

A Hamas delegation came to Cairo late Tuesday to discuss the movement's Egypt-brokered truce as well as a prisoner swap deal with Israel.

Abu Marzouq said that the delegation discussed the usual agenda, including opening the Rafah crossing and the Palestinian national reconciliation.

"We received an invitation from Egypt for another round of negotiations to resume inter-Palestinian talks," he said.

Earlier, Ramzy Rabeh, member of the political wing of DFLP told dpa that the DFLP delegation to Cairo was part of the party's efforts to cooperate with Egyptians in tackling the situation in Gaza. (dpa)
