Woman swept away in rain-swollen river in Hong Kong dies
Hong Kong - A woman died Thursday morning after being swept into a rain-swollen river in Hong Kong as the territory was lashed by torrential downpours.
The unidentified woman's body was recovered by firemen after residents reported seeing her in the water in Tai Hang village in the city's rural Tai Po district, emergency services said.
The death came as Hong Kong suffered some of its wettest ever summer weather with parts of the New Territories north of Hong Kong island recording up to 250 millimetres of rain since midnight.
There were 60 separate reports of floods across the former British colony and four landslides, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
Hong Kong last month saw its wettest ever June with persistent heavy rain throughout the month, causing traffic chaos and cutting off some rural communities. (dpa)
