Islamabad, May 26: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has agreed with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz [PML(N)] to increase the tenure of the CJ of Pakistan to five years in the PPPs constitution amendment package.

Zardari assured PML-N leader Ishaq Dar during a meeting on Sunday that the tenure would be increased to five years from the proposed three.

Dar had called on Zardari to discuss the draft of the Constitution Amendment Bill and the federal budget.

Zardari also assured the PML-N leader that all deposed judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, would be reinstated.

The agreement between the PPP and PML-N on the chief justice’s tenure could pave the way for resolving an issue that had the potential to trigger off a serious political crisis.

PML-N spokesman Siddiqul Farooq praised Zardari’s decision and expressed hope that it would end the bitterness between the coalition partners over the non-implementation of the Murree Declaration.

Zardari’s gesture should be followed by concrete action, he said. (ANI)
