Maoists distribute seized land to squatters in Nepal
Kathmandu, May 20: The Maoist cadres in Nepal have started distributing the land which they seized during insurgency to the families of freed kamaiya (bonded laborer) and landless squatters in Kailali District.
According to Kantipur, the Maoist cadres provided 10 katthas land to each freed kamaiya families and landless people at Pahalmanpur VDC.
They would be provided land ownership certificates once the Maoists form the government.
"Maoist cadres distributed seven bighas of land to the kamaiyas and landless people who have been living inside Birendra Community Forest on Friday," said Pushparaj Bhatta of Pahalmanpur-1.
According to residents, Maoists distributed some 90 bighas of captured land in the areas.
Maoists have captured around 3,000 bighas of lands of different 210 households in the district.
However, the Maoists claimed that they distributed the land belonging to those people who have not returned to their villages following the peace process. (ANI)
