Canoo releases images of fully-electric pickup truck, with official roll out set for 2023
American electric vehicle (EV) startup Canoo Incorporated has released some images of its upcoming fully-electric pickup truck-- a bubbly EV based on the startup’s proprietary multi-purpose platform. The pickup truck is not due for launch until 2023. Loaded with unique features and components that utilize every inch of startup’s proprietary multi-purpose platform, the new Canoo electric pickup truck is as flat as possible, sacrificing shock towers and steering columns. Its platform, instead, utilizes steering and braking by wire.
While the startup hasn’t revealed any details on the upcoming EV’s interior, the newly-released images revealed a lot about its exterior. Its outer design reveals that it will make life easier for drivers, particularly during camping. One of its unique features is the pullout bed extension, and the standard bed length is 6 feet. Swinging out a second layer of tailgate doors extends the bed to 8 feet, which is sufficient for almost everyone. The extension features a secondary lamp as well, and it is able to perform all tail light functions. Within the truck bed, there is a modular divider system, which prevents items from tipping over or rolling around. Additionally, ratchet straps secure large items.
Both sides of the electric pickup also hold a flip down table, which can be expanded to two diverse depths. The wall of the truck bed can also be transformed into a workbench, complete with power plugs nearby. It will also offer exportable power, which will be available on all sides of the EV. The extremely modular and multi-use EV will be made available with multiple roof rack options.
As per the company’s press release, the Canoo pickup will come equipped with a single rear motor or dual motors. The dual motor option will offer 600 hp and 550 feet of torque, equal to a payload capacity of around 1,800 lbs.
Tony Aquila, Executive Chairman of Canoo, praised the upcoming electric pickup, claiming that it would change people’s lives.
Commenting on the EV, Aquila said, “We are so passionate about building vehicles that can change people’s lives. Our pickup truck is as strong as the toughest trucks out there and is designed to be exponentially more productive. This truck works for you. We made accessories for people who use trucks – on the job, weekends, adventure.”
Full specifications of the fully-electric Canoo pickup truck will be released closer to its roll out, which is slated to begin sometime in 2023. Pre-orders for the EV will be accepted starting the second quarter of this year.
