Norway: 4,713 new electric cars registered in the country in August 2019

According to the latest electric-vehicle (EV) registration figures coming from Norway, a total number of 4,713 new electric passenger cars were registered in the country in August 2019.

In addition, 2,761 new cars with hybrid drive -- including 1,206 plug-in hybrids -- were also registered in the country during the reporting month.

The new EV registrations in Norway during the month of August underscored a month-of month growth yet again, in comparison to the July 2019 EV registration numbers. Moreover, the figures also marked a 13.4% year-on-year increase as compared to the figures recorded for August 2018.

The share of fully-electric vehicles in the Norwegian market in August 2019 was 39%, while new EVs with hybrid drives accounted for a 22.9% market share during the month. In all, vehicles outfitted with an electric or hybrid drive comprised 61.9% of all newly registered passenger cars in the country in August 2019.

Norway presently has the highest per capita uptake of electric mobility as against any other country in the world. In the year 2019 thus far, a total number of 43,397 new fully-electric cars have already hit the Norwegian roads, with the most successful EV in the country being the VW Golf. The other popular EV models in Norway include Tesla Model 3, Nissan Leaf, Audi e-Tron, BMW i3, Jaguar I-Pace, Renault Zoe, and Tesla Model X.
