Toyota planning to recall 7.4 million vehicles worldwide
Japanese automaker, Toyota Motor Corp is planning to recall as many as 7.4 million vehicles worldwide due to an issue relating to malfunctioning power window switches.
The company said that it will recall 2.47 million vehicles in the United States, 1.39 million vehicles in Europe and around 1.40 million vehicles in China. The company will recall around 459,300 vehicles in its home market, Japan.
Shino Yamada, a spokeswoman for the company said that Toyota will also recall 650,000 vehicles in Australia and Asia, 490,000 vehicles in the Near and Middle East, 240,000 vehicles in Canada and 330,000 vehicles in other markets.
The recall is the largest since 1996 when Ford Motor Co recalled 7.9 million vehicles. The Toyota recall will include Yaris, Vios, Corolla, Matrix, Auris, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Tundra, Sequoia, xB and xD. The company spokesman also said that no accidents have been reported due to the issue with the power window switches.
The company has been a sharp fall in demand for its models in China as the total sales fell 48.9 percent in the country. Japanese firms are facing a wave of anti-Japanese sentiment in China due to the ongoing territorial dispute between the two countries.
Shares of the company fell 1.90 percent at the Japanese stock market while the benchmark, Nikkei index fell 1.98 percent.
