Holden to halt production at Elizabeth assembly plant
Australian manufacturer, Holden has announced that it will halt production at its Elizabeth assembly plant located in the state of South Australia for several days till the end of the year as the dmand for its product continues remain weak.
The company has seen low demand for its Holden Commodore and Holden Cruze models. The sales of its Commodore has fallen 33.2 per cent between July and August compared to the same period in the previous year. On the other hand, the sales of Cruze fell 29.2 per cent during the period compared to the same period of the previous year.
Holden corporate affairs manager Sean Poppitt said that the company is planning to hold what he described as market response days in order to avoid having an oversupply of cars in the market.
Poppitt said, “They’re individual days that are spread out between now and the end of the year. “We’ve got a small number of those, which is designed to basically align production with demand. It’s really crucial for a niche, low-volume plant like our one that we’re able to respond to market fluctuations.”
He also said that the product cuts will only reduce the company’s target by four per cent, which is about 2500 to 3000 vehicles.
