Government to allow only six subsidized cylinders per year
The central government has said that people will only be allowed to purchase six LPG cylinders at subsidized rates from gas agencies in a year.
If anyone wants to purchase cylinders beyond six in a year, they will have to pay much a much higher price for the same. Gas dealers have said that there is a lot of uncertainty over the future actions as they have not received guidelines from the central government.
The agents said that the new rule will fuel demand for thousands of new connections and also that they do not know on what rate to offer cylinders to the people who have already purchased six cylinders in the year. It is not known if such consumers will be exempted from the new rules this year or will they have to pay normal rates for the LPG.
In the national capital Delhi, there are about 13.5 lakh domestic consumers and nearly 60 LPG dealers and experts believe that the number of connections could rise rapidly due to the new rules as people will look to bypass the rules by having different connections.
