Mercedes-Benz reveals new Mbrace2 system at CES 2012

German luxury auto maker, Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new telematics system, Mbrace2 at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas.

The new Mbrace2 will offer a host of popular apps in the vehicle and will feature first in the updated 2013 SL-Class and will be included in other models form 2013. The company improved its onscreen interface with a carousel menu structure.

The new system will offer apps including, Yelp, a news reader, Morningstar Finance, Google search, Google Street View, and Panoramio. Most of the apps included will come integrated with the navigation system. However, many of the features of the apps will be blocked while the car is moving for safety reasons.

Mercedes-Benz has entered into an agreement with Hughes Telematics, which will help update the apps in the vehicles remotely and will save the users from visiting the dealer for updating the programmes. Mbrace2 is based on a new hardware module and has 3G connectivity.

Mbrace2 will also continue to offer the features offered by the first generation of Mbrace, such as emergency crash response and remote door unlocking. The new geofencing feature that allows users to set an area in which the car can be driven and the breadcrumb service, which allows them see where the car was driven allows users not only to deal with unruly children but also track stolen cars.

Mercedes-Benz boss Dieter Zetsche introduced Mbrace2 at the event and also released a vide explaining the features and concepts on which the company is working.
