India’s Manufacturing Sector to Slowdown, Survey
According to a joint survey by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Ascon, India’s manufacturing sector is set to slowdown during the October-December quarter because of global economic crisis and an increase in input prices in the country.
"The manufacturing sector has observed moderation in growth during April-September, 2011, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The industry expects further moderation in growth in the third quarter - October-December, 2011," the survey read.
The survey showed that the sectors seeing high growth will now experience only a moderate growth rate this quarter due to the increasing prices of raw materials. The survey studied 103 sectors and found that growth of more than 20 percent of the sectors declined to 10.6 per cent in April-September, 2011 compared to 35.7 per cent in April-September, 2010.
In the third quarter 43.6 per cent sectors recorded moderate growth compared to 38.9 per cent sectors in the earlier quarter, the survey showed. The percentage of secors with hig growth rose to 24.2 per cent in April-September, 2011 from 16.7 per cent in April-September 2010.
Chandrajit Banerjee, director general, CII said high input and capital cost as well as the uncertainties in the global economy affected the growth in various sectors in the country.
