Socializing – a hurdle to healthy sleep?

sleep qualityAccording to findings of a recently done research, the extroverts who like to socialize more as compared to the introverts are likely to be a victim of sleep deprivation. The study which took a sample size of close to 48 people said that the walking experience affects sleep quality.

The volunteers that took part in this study were judged on the basis of the personality style and accordingly close to half of them were put into a socially enriched environment and half of them were put into isolation. While the, quality of sleep of the respondents was assessed by the researchers from the Center for Military Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Maryland.

According to the lead author of the study, Dr. Tracy Rupp the extroverts that are exposed to the socially enriched environment showed sleep deprivation as compared to the extroverts who were exposed to the identical but socially impoverished environment.

It may be noted here that the doctor also said that the ability of the introverts to resist the sleep loss was relatively unaffected by the social environment and the present results might also be interpreted in a way that the walking experienced influence the sleep loss behavior.
