Bajaj aiming for a contract manufacturing with Renault-Nissan
While the project between Renault-Nissan and Bajaj Auto has already been delayed a couple of time due to the difference of opinions among the two parties, but the home-grown two-wheeler maker has recently said that the company may look at the option of contract manufacturing which will rule out the option of forming a JV to get the product to the Indian consumer.
Working on the Ultra low cost (ULC) car project that it expected to hit the market by 2012 around the price bracket of close to $2500 mark, it is expected to take on the world’s cheapest car, Tata Nano. Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto has recently said that the company may look at taking the OEM route and will not form a JV with Renault-Nissan.
It is to be mentioned here that unlike the case with the Logan, where M&M also took a bit of hit on its brand equity, if Bajaj takes the OEM route, the success or failure of the model will not hamper or enhance the brand equity of Bajaj Auto.
Moreover, Bajaj also said that the company will be taking a decision in due course of time after discussing jointly among the three partners.
