The Legal Battle Between Nokia And Apple Broadens

The Legal Battle Nokia And Apple BroadensNokia, the world's major cell phone maker, extended its patent battle against technology giant Apple to include the iPad, intensifying the legal clash between the two smartphone contenders.

Nokia stated that it had lodged a charge in the Federal District Court in the Western District of Wisconsin, saying that Apple's iPhone and iPad 3G products breach five vital Nokia patents.

The patents have not been covered up in Nokia's earlier proceedings against Apple.

Nokia and Apple are between a major legal fight, which commenced in October 2009 when Nokia charged Apple for utilizing its registered technologies without paying for them.

In a statement, Nokia said, "The patents in question relate to technologies for enhanced speech and data transmission, using positioning data in applications and innovations in antenna configurations that improve performance and save space."

"These patented innovations are important to Nokia's success as they allow improved product performance and design," the statement added. (With Inputs from Agencies)
